Product details & care

A small sculpture you can whisk matcha in. Each Neko bowl is thrown, carved and glazed by hand in a small family-run ceramics workshop in Jiangxi, China's historic porcelain province, then fired at high temperature until its crystal glaze blooms into frost-like patterns. No two bowls come out of the kiln the same.

And yes, the cat is doing exactly what it looks like. The open mouth is a real pouring spout: whisk your matcha in the bowl, tip it, and the cat pours it neatly into your cup.

Why crystal glaze is special

Crystalline glaze is one of the most demanding finishes in ceramics. During a slow, controlled cooling in the kiln, crystals grow inside the glaze and spread into petal- and frost-like formations. The result can't be printed or copied, and it's why every bowl carries its own pattern, depth and shimmer.

Crafted by hand, piece by piece

  • Hand-shaped body with a sculpted cat face, ears and eyes
  • Hand-painted glossy red mouth that doubles as a pouring spout
  • High-fired, food-safe ceramic that holds heat while you whisk
  • Unique crystal-glaze pattern on every piece, in Celadon Green or Glacier Blue

Choose your ritual

The Bowl: the cat matcha bowl on its own (570 ml / 19 oz, 14.3 × 12.4 × 11 cm).

The 8-Piece Ceremony Set: everything you need for a full matcha ritual:

  • 1 × cat matcha bowl, 570 ml, 14.3 × 12.4 × 11 cm
  • 2 × matching crystal-glaze tea cups, 60 ml, 4.4 × 9.1 cm
  • 1 × crystal-glaze whisk holder (kusenaoshi), 6.2 × 7.1 cm
  • 1 × bamboo whisk (chasen), 6 × 10 cm
  • 1 × bamboo scoop (chashaku), 18.5 cm
  • 1 × stainless steel matcha sifter, 18.9 cm
  • 1 × ceramic scoop rest, 9.8 × 5.5 × 1.5 cm

Care

Hand wash only with warm water and a soft cloth to protect the crystal glaze. Not for dishwasher or microwave. Let the bamboo whisk air-dry on its holder.

Because every piece is handmade and the glaze crystallises naturally in the kiln, colour, pattern and small details will vary slightly from the photos. That's the mark of a real handmade piece.

The craft

Crystals that grow in the kiln.

Crystalline glaze is one of the most demanding finishes in ceramics: slow to fire, impossible to fake and different every time. It's why each Neko bowl carries its own shimmer and depth.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is every bowl really one of a kind?

Yes. Each bowl is shaped and glazed by hand, and the crystal glaze forms its own pattern while it cools in the kiln. Colour, crystal size and small details will vary slightly from the photos. No two bowls are identical.

How does the cat pour?

The open mouth is a real spout that runs through to the inside of the bowl. Whisk your matcha, tilt the bowl toward your cup and it pours from the cat's mouth. Pour slowly the first time to get a feel for it.

How big is the bowl?

14.3 × 12.4 × 11 cm with a 570 ml (19 oz) capacity, a generous size that gives your whisk plenty of room for a smooth, frothy matcha.

What's in the 8-piece set?

The cat matcha bowl, two matching crystal-glaze tea cups (60 ml), a crystal-glaze whisk holder, a bamboo whisk (chasen), a bamboo scoop (chashaku), a stainless steel sifter and a ceramic scoop rest.

Is it food safe? Can it go in the dishwasher?

The bowl is high-fired, food-safe ceramic. To protect the hand-applied crystal glaze, please hand wash only with warm water and a soft cloth. No dishwasher or microwave.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are processed within 1-3 business days and shipped with tracking. International delivery usually takes 7-20 business days depending on your location. Every piece is carefully packed to arrive safely.

What if my bowl arrives damaged?

Ceramics are fragile, so we pack every order carefully. If anything arrives damaged, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll replace it or refund you in full.
